ENGR-3147EL – Mineral Processing II

This course examines the principles and technology of froth flotation. Topics include: fundamentals of flotation, mathematical modeling of semi-batch and continuous flotation processes, flotation circuit simulation, electrical properties of interfaces, electrical double layer and zeta potential, thermodynamics of interfaces, absorption and wetting, flotation surfactants and commercial flotation reagents, inorganic regulating agents, activators and depressants, principles of sulfide, oxide and silicate flotation, frothing phenomena and frothers, properties of flotation pulps, flotation machines, standard flotation separations, flotation plant practice, problems and new developments in flotation technology. This course also includes discussion of selective flocculation and magnetic and electrostatic separations. PREREQ: ENGR 3116. (lec 3, lab 3) cr 3.
