COMM-4057EL – The Business Environment

This course provides learners with a broad knowledge of significant components of the external environment necessary to conduct business in Canada without excluding other countries. The emphasis will be placed on the relations and intricacies among business, government and other agencies as each is pursuing its own objectives. The course will cover topics such as: Canada’s competitive strengths and weaknesses, wrong and right kinds of government intervention, self-regulation, broker of public interest, facilitator of special interests, mixed economy and enterprises, Keynesian economy, privatization, globalization/regionalism, trade liberalization, free market system, world organizations, advocacy campaigns, bailouts of firms, mergers, green and white papers, sustainable development, as they relate to the social, cultural, technological, economic, political etc. aspects associated with trends, policies and regulations.
