This course examines the classification and recognition of sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks, the nature of their occurrence and processes responsible for their formation. A third of the course is devoted to each of the three major lithotypes. Laboratory exercises and field-oriented assignments will focus on hand specimen material, emphasizing common mineral associations, structures and textures.
