Examines the physical heat flow processes of importance to thermal comfort and survival of humans. The influence of thermoregulatory processes and of changes in metabolic rates are treated in sufficient depth to permit a study of implications in the design and use of clothing and in the selection of survival strategies in harsh thermal environments. The course also addresses the stresses caused by a variety of other environmental factors, e.g. high altitudes and deep-sea diving. Students may not retain credit for both PHYS 2626 & 3106.
