PHYS-3046EL – Mechanical Properties of Solids and Fluids

The mechanical properties of deformable solids are examined under linear, shear and combined stresses. The associated coefficients are derived and interrelated. Configurations of strain gauges are studied. Models of inter-atomic forces are studied. Energy transport and its characteristics are studied under different flow conditions for all types of fluids. Flow measurement and associated equipment for fluids and solid particles are studied. PREREQ: PHYS 1006/7 or 1206/7 or equiv. & MATH 1036/7. (lec 3) cr 3
