PHIL-2746EL – Communications Media and Values

A philosophical exploration of the ethical and cultural implications of the rapid growth and proliferation of diverse new communication media, such as computers and electronic networks. Topics may include: virtual reality, virtual community and multiple identities on electronic networks; artificial intelligence; comparing information and knowledge; programming codes and language; ethical issues surrounding privacy, data quality, database security, and intellectual property; electronic communications, the global village, and changes in the nature of civilization.
