NSWK-4436EL – Addressing Grief and Loss in Native Social Work Practice

This course examines the current theoretical perspectives on palliative care, bereavement and grief and loss with a specific interest in working with aboriginal populations. The course reviews basic palliative care, bereavement and grief concepts as well as interventions appropriate for use within aboriginal populations. The course presents the various ways that culture, spirituality, gender, and development affect the gieving process and determine the use of selected interventions. PREREQ: Third or Fourth Year equivalent from Humanities or Social Sciences.
