NATI-3146EL – Canadian Politics and Métis Peoples

This course surveys the contemporary circumstances of the Métis in Canada, including the social, economic, historical, and political factors that have contributed to the development of the Métis Nation. The course examines a broad range of issues relevant to Métis relations in Canada including the politics of Métis identity, constitutional and common law rendering of Métis rights, Métis settlements and provincial/federal relations, and the Métis relationship to urban Aboriginal communities. As well, the course considers the Métis in an international, Idigenous context. (lec 3) cr 3.
