JURI-3136EL – The Adversary System and Its Critique

This course explores the historical development of the adversarial legal system from Norman times to the present. The common law is compared and contrasted with alternative legal systems, particularly the civil law. The ethical implications of the model of zealous advocacy are explored. Contemporary movements toward de-legalization through alternative dispute resolution are also introduced. PREREQ: JURI 1105. (lec 3) cr 3
