GEOL-1021EL – Understanding the Earth I

This course covers the physical geology of the Earth, including the origin of the solar system, Earth structure and Earth physics (seismology, geomagnetism), plate tectonics as the unifying theory in Earth sciences, earthquakes, magma generation, volcanic activity, continental growth, mountain building, geological structures (folds and faults), the rock cycle, sedimentary/metamorphic/igneous rocks and rock-forming minerals. This course has the same lecture content as GEOL 1006E, but does not have a laboratory component. It is not a credit for geology majors and cannot be taken for credit concurrently with, or subsequently to, GEOL 1006E. (lec 3) cr 3.
