EDUC-4009EL – Primary/Junior Social and Legal Issues In Education

In a mainly lecture and case methodology setting, this 18-hour professional year concurrent education course focuses on practical social, organizational and legal aspects of everyday teaching. While social issues like child abuse, bullying, harassment and drug abuse will be covered, the focus of this course will deal with Ontario and Canadian organizational frameworks and especially the legal implications of these issues at the Primary/Junior level, as well as legislation in relation to liability, young offenders (Youth Criminal Justice Act), copyright and related aspects of the Education Act (“duties of teachers” for example), and the Ontario College of Teachers Act. PREREQ: admission to the professional year of the Concurrent Education Program. cr 1.5
