EDUC-4005EL – Primary/Junior Methods: Instructional Strategies

The course consists of three separate components – instructional strategies (48 hours), management (12 hours) and computer instruction (12 hours). The instructional strategies (methods) component consists of a study of teaching and learning in the Primary and Junior Divisions. It includes a range of approaches to develop instruction, implementation and evaluation strategies. The management component addresses approaches to proactive classroom management. The computer component provides an introduction to the roles of information technology in teaching and learning, including the use of Ministry of Education and Training approved software regarding reporting to parents, evaluation of students and curriculum development. The components are highly interrelated and closely connected to the practicum component of the B.Ed. program. The knowledge, skills, values and tools taught in this course are widely transferable to other subject areas and learning environments. Timely issues arising from student experiences during practicum placements, media stories and new information from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities will be addressed as well. Students should note that the final standing in this course is a composite grade based on methods (75%), management (15%) and computers (10%). cr 6
