ECON-3237EL – Comparative Economic Systems

Explores approaches to the definition and comparison of economic systems, particularly capitalism and socialism. Includes an introduction to the development of the Soviet economy including the NEP, debates on agriculture and industrialization, the emergence of central planning, problems of price formation and price reform, national accounting and growth, international trade and exchange, and Perestroika, particular features of the plan and the market in other socialist countries.
