ANTR-2005EL – Child Rearing Across Cultures

This course examines and compares child-rearing practices in band, tribal, chiefdom, peasant and state societies around the world. The effects of formal schooling and culture change are also considered. Case studies include the Aka Pygmies of the Central African Republic, the Kung San of Namibia/Botswana, the Sambia of Papua New Guinea, Samoans, the Hutterites of Canada, and Native North Americans.
